‘Game of Thrones’ Used IKEA Rugs as Capes

Anyone who has ever seen Game of Thrones knows that the production budget are far from measly, but it seems even with up to 10 Millions USD for each episode, the costume department still has to get creative every now and then. Did you know you might actually have Jon Snow’s cape on your floor right now?

Michele Clapton, the three-time Emmy Award-winning costume designer for GoT, revealed:

“These capes are actually IKEA rugs,” Clapton revealed to an audience of fans. “A bit of trick. We take anything we can. We cut and we shave them and then we added strong leather straps and breakdown, which is like a religion on Game of Thrones.”
