Bugatti Redefines Opulence with the Chiron Super Sport ‘Golden Era’
Bugatti, renowned for its impeccable performance and unrivaled craftsmanship, has set an extraordinary new benchmark with its latest creation – the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ‘Golden Era.’ This exceptional masterpiece represents a pinnacle in bespoke automotive projects, even by Bugatti’s exacting standards.
A labor of love spanning over two years, the Golden Era was conceived by a Bugatti aficionado whose reverence for the brand’s history and the technical marvels of the W16 engine sparked a unique vision. Achim Anscheidt, Bugatti’s former Design Director, shared that “A very important customer…wanted to do something truly unique in celebration” of the brand and its iconic engine. This initial inspiration evolved into a remarkable odyssey through Bugatti’s legacy, aptly christened the ‘Golden Era.’ It showcases an intricate tapestry of 45 hand-drawn sketches depicting the brand’s icons, adorning both the car’s exterior and interior.
On the passenger side of the exterior, 26 meticulously crafted sketches pay homage to Bugatti’s storied past. These include representations of revered models such as the 1926 Type 41 Royale, the epitome of luxury during its time, and the celebrated Type 57 SC Atlantic, lauded for its automotive elegance. Conversely, the driver’s side glorifies Bugatti’s contemporary resurgence, featuring 19 sketches chronicling the journey from the iconic EB110 to the present-day Chiron.
Underscoring the monumental undertaking, Anscheidt revealed, “We had to find a process that would allow us to use pencils and do all of the sketches by hand, directly onto the paintwork.” After 400 hours of meticulous craftsmanship, the result is an awe-inspiring exterior masterpiece that redefines the boundaries of automotive artistry.
This extraordinary narrative continues within the cabin, where Bugatti’s past and present icons grace the leather of both passenger and driver-side doors. The doorsills bear inscriptions “1909 – 1956” and “1987 – 2023,” commemorating the significant epochs in Bugatti’s legacy. Further interior details include “Golden Era” elegantly embroidered onto the headrests, and “One-of-One” discreetly etched onto a carbon fiber panel at the control console’s base.
Hendrik Malinowski, Bugatti Managing Director, encapsulates the essence of this creation, stating, “Sur Mesure literally translates as tailored… Each step, every decision and – in the case of the Golden Era – every stroke of the pencil, was completed with the close oversight and input of the owner to exceed his expectations in a way that no other brand is able to do.”
A triumphant representation of pivotal moments in Bugatti’s history, the Chiron Super Sport ‘Golden Era’ stands alone in its audacious vision and execution. While many bespoke one-of-one creations remain confined to private collections, the ‘Golden Era’ is poised to make a grand appearance at the forthcoming Monterey Car Week, defying convention and sharing its splendor with the world.
