In an encore collaboration with Takashi Murakami, Hublot introduces the MP-15, a limited edition timepiece that transcends the boundaries of horological design. Following the success of their central tourbillon at Only Watch, this latest creation takes a departure from Murakami’s vibrant palette, opting instead for a mesmerizing transparent design.
Limited to just 50 pieces, the MP-15 seamlessly integrates the case, movement, and dial into a singular entity, highlighting the central flying tourbillon. Murakami’s distinctive 12-petal flower motif, intricately crafted from sapphire, encircles the tourbillon, adding an ethereal touch.
The 42mm watch boasts a fully transparent composition, featuring a sapphire case, caseback, crown, translucent flange, and strap, allowing sunlight to permeate the floral piece. Despite the absence of color, Murakami injects playful elements into the mechanics, with twinkling eyes and a broad smile integrated into the tourbillon.
The MP-15’s central flying tourbillon boasts a remarkable 150-hour power reserve, accompanied by a USB-rechargeable stylus for winding. Technical innovations include peripheral hour and minute indicators, defying convention as they pass beneath the tourbillon cage. The absence of an upper bridge and skeletonized components offers wearers an unobstructed view of the intricate workings, while standard markers ensure easy readability.
Murakami expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “Up until now, my work has focused on color. It was a really exciting challenge to start a whole chapter focusing on absolute transparency.” He added, “With Hublot, we were able to preserve the individuality of my floral motif, but with a unique and different identity which was purer and perfectly in tune with Hublot’s mechanical universe. I’m very proud of the result!”
