A Lamborghini Countach of particular significance has recently emerged on the auction block of RM Sotheby’s. It’s one of just two 25th Anniversary editions of the Lamborghini Countach used during the filming of Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’.
Adding to the car’s exceptional value is the fact that it is the only surviving model from the film; the second Countach met its untimely end in a crash scene involving Jordan Belfort, Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, during a drug-fueled ride home from a country club — a scene that has since become infamous.
This particular “Wolf” Countach is set to be the star lot in RM Sotheby’s forthcoming New York City Luxury Week boutique sale, commencing on December 8. Among vintage Lamborghini Countach models, the 25th Anniversary edition is considered the most advanced, thanks to various enhancements overseen by legendary car designer Horacio Pagani.
The vehicle to be auctioned is believed to be one of only 12 US-specification models produced in the Bianco Polo over Bianco variant. Recently, a nearly identical specification sold for over $700,000 USD. However, the “Wolf” Countach, with its Hollywood legacy and pedigree, is expected to fetch almost triple that amount.
Gord Duff, Global Head of Auctions at RM Sotheby’s, expressed, “The ‘Wolf’ Countach, along with the other cars set to be on offer, perfectly encapsulates what we aimed to achieve with our sale during Sotheby’s Luxury Week.” He added, “Scorsese, DiCaprio, Lamborghini, and New York – they all contribute to an incredible lineage. The sale will include similar cars – unique, highly collectible, boasting a degree of provenance, low mileage, or one-off specifications. Our team has a strong history of curating boutique sales like this one, and we are excited to display this during Luxury Week.”
